Interior Architecture 1

Assignment 1:

WHAT YOU SEE

This assignment is the first assignment, more of an exercise for us students to be exposed to read and interpret design. We are required to choose a daily object and observes it in several different perspective. This assignment is to build up the sensitivity in observing things in depth and not in surface.

In this assignment, I have learnt that:

1. The simplest objects around us have many complex design that might look simple but actually includes a lot of design elements that eases human life.

2. We should always look into the design not only how it looks but also how it functions.

This assignment is the second assignment given to us where its very new and fresh. The assignment requires the skills of kitbashing which is seperating components of  a made object and combine it into something new.

From this assignment I have learnt:

1. How to identify useful components in an object and to be able to foresee the potential of that component.

2. I have learn the composition of design for example centralised, radial, linear and etc. These are very important as we can't just mix and match and place them together as how we want as a design needs a uniformity and unity.

3. I learnt that shapes and form of a design is very important especially a product design, but in my case, my composition and function was well but my design was lacking in the form as it was too boxy and flat.

Final Assignment:

RESEARCH COCOON

This final assignment is the one and only assignment that really let us indulge in space planning and an opportunity for us to practice some space planning and technical drawing. Overall this assignment was interesting and also challenging as we need to really know our design approach adjacent to the element we chose and also the site we chose.

From this assignment, the crit panels gave me alot of advices and insight as well as critiques:

1. Firstly, my design was to straight forward, it just looks like a boring bungalow or villa design. There isn't any conceptual seen in the design and the design doesnt seem relevant to the keywords and site I have chosen. For example, my site is located on a flat land and near a lake. Hence, I named my design as The Meadows research cocoon. However, my design does not show any relation to that.

2. The crit then gave me advices and also example of what "Meadows" should be like. For example, swift, calming, flexible, curvy and etc.

3. Fortunately I was given credit for my drawings as they were clean and tidy. All thanks to my DCOM classes and also â€‹the harsh assignments in my foundation year.
